In this article, I offer tips on energetically cleansing your home and bringing in new energy. During the spring season, one of the practices we are drawn to is spring cleaning - our closets and our home. For cleansing the energies of the home, there are a couple of tips that I offer to those who may be new to cleansing their home. One key tip is that in addition to clearing our home with cleansing plants (like sage spray or essential oils such as rosemary, tea tree oil and frankincense), we want to welcome in the energies that we do want to add. So, after Opening Sacred Space and cleansing (with windows open to let out the unwanted energies), I like to add something like: “This house is filled with love and light and all that is good and only what is good lives here.”You can accompany this part of the ceremony with palo santo (I use a spray).
Another tip is to include your home’s threshold in the ceremony. Before I close Sacred Space, I go to my front door and state something along the lines of: “This home is filled with love and light. Only that which is good and only what is good is welcome. And only that which is of the highest vibration, highest frequency, and for my highest good may cross this threshold. And so it is.” My personal home cleansing ritual is a bit more elaborate, but these simple additions could enhance your own home energetic cleansing ceremony.
Perhaps the most important tip though is to create a sacred container for your energy cleansing ceremony by opening sacred space. There are many ways to open sacred space, including prayer, and you can find different versions online. With my shamanic practice, my sacred space opening has evolved to include opening sacred space using the 4 cardinal directions and their associated archetypes as well as the Earth (Pachamama) and Great Spirit.
